This is a joke about the absurdity of some math word problems. When a math student is given a word problem, they tend to suspend disbelief and just accept that whatever the math problem says happened actually happened. That being said, it is also humorous to consider the logistical constraints of buying 60 watermelons. It would be absurd - how could you even take them through the checkout stand? You would need multiple shopping carts.
