Today at the bank, an old lady asked me to help check her balance. So I pushed her over.

This is a pun, and also an absurd joke. This is also an example of violence in a joke

First, the pun: The old lady asked the jokester to "check her balance" To check one's balance in regards to a bank normally would mean can mean to see how much money is in a bank account. The other meaning would be to see how good a person is at balancing, so for the purposes of the joke both understandings of the word make sense.

The absurdity of the situation is because the story that is told seems completely unexpected - you wouldn't push over an old lady - that is crazy. Also, who wouldn't understand that a person in a bank asking someone to check their balance is asking about the balance of one of their bank accounts?

This is certainly also a dad joke - I could imagine a father telling this one.
